Re: [Xylo-SDR] Forum Audio from Xylo Group

Probably not a list topic. Audacity is a really nice product. I’ll try the click – drag then go to end of the drag and remove the selection and hit play.

I have no idea, why not. That is how I do it, you also click and drag to mark a section of audio for removal or saving, or processing.

Have you checked the Internet for a updated version of the software you are used to?

Audacity is rated as the best free audio editing because it can take three different kinds of audio plug-ins, and you can also write code snippets in Lisp to do special processing. But you need to be happy, that is what my mommy use to say. I use it in editing and processing recordings that some are over 10 hours in length, it works wonders at improving old audio tapes.

One neat thing about it is that I have the same audio edit software in my Windows, Linux and Mac PC's, it helps one stay sane.

Have been playing with Audacity and can’t for the life of me, move around in the audio track quickly. With nch I just click in the track and it moves to that point in the audio. Nice full featured product. I usually use mp3 16 khz mono, which compresses down about 80%

One of things you can try when you have time, is saving it as a MP3 with lower data rates, 32Kb for voice audio sounds really good and makes them files a lot smaller.

Folks

I have the audio thanks to Bob – VE3GKM. He is a lifesaver. I will edit again with the new program and post it here. (Just tried the NCH program again and it bombed again) I’ll download the audacity and redo.

The main trick is to output the edited file to a new file, so if it bombs out you still have the original.

I have received a partial copy, it looks liked I missed quite a bit of interested stuff. So again, if anyone has the whole Xylo meeting audio, I would like to get a copy, for that matter Eric might want it to file it away for anyone else.

Thanks

I’ll give this a try. In the beginning of Teamspeak I tried a few and have been using this software for almost 2 years and have not had a problem. It is not supposed to be handicapped, just doesn’t have all the features of the version they sell. I got used to it and never changed away from it. I don’t know exactly what happened but it threw an error when I went to save as and shut down. When I tried re-loading the file it just had about 35 seconds of audio.

Will try the audacity.

I don't know what you use, but Audacity is free, works great, and doesn't have adds asking you to upgrade.

It's available for Windows, Linux, Mac, and a dozen other Unix flavors. I use it to edit hour long wav files with no problems.

It takes several different kinds of plug-ins,  and can convert audio between different formats including MP3.

< http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/windows > Open and free is good.

But it's always wise to edit to another file, not to the original.

NUTS!

I started processing the audio from tonight’s excellent Teamspeak session to MP3. I got a ‘pop up’ in the beginning urging me as an “Excellent user of the software” to buy the full version. When I was saving the conversion got a “Send – Don’t send to Microsoft” message and the source file had about 35 seconds of audio!

It was a good session, mainly discussions to using this ‘device’ as an adjunct to SDR-1000 Software defined radio. I think all of us know that it will be more than that in the end, but this will be a killer of an external component to the SDR-1000.

Phil – VK6APH and Bill – KD5TFD have about nailed the audio interface from the Wolfson chip.

Bill – KD5TFD is working on a ‘smooth’ interface between the Xylo Thing to the PowerSDR software. Bill also has a GPS interfaced to the Xylo and is sending information back to the PC ultimately give frequency correction to the sub hz range.

Phil – VK6APH is working on inserting CW via the USB on the Xylo interface in I/Q format to key the SDR at truly high speed properly ‘shaped’ waveform.

We need to be thinking about defining the SDR-1000 interface project scope, as Phil – N8VB did with the HPSDR message earlier.

Apologies for losing the audio. This IS exciting stuff. Will be more careful in the future!

Go Bill! Go Phil!
