with all the discussion of hardware and the interconnects as a bystander it 
seems to me that this whole effort is to clean up the shortcommings of the 
sdr-1000.  needed is a box to put the audio for the receive side and another 
for the send side.  then there is a frequency snugger up to allow much 
better readouts and stability.  then a lot of discussion of individual parts 
that are needed to do the above.  it is always good to find out what the 
result is going to be then do the modules to do it !!  so what do we want to 
end up with.  my vote is for a volume control on the box and a power supply 
to run all of this added hardware as well as the sdr-1000 to make it all 
stand alone.  2+1 cents.
