PHY?

PHY is an industry term meaning the physical layer interface. In this case the reference is to the wire-level Ethernet interface. In the OSI Model nomenclature, it would be "Layer 1." If the reference is to a PHY integrated circuit, the IC implements OSI Layers 1 and most likely Layer 2 and perhaps even some of Layer 3. Graham, KE9H, 10 May 2009
